My Summer Pool Bag Essentials

Summer is here! For my family and I, that means a ton of time spent by the water. Be it a pool, lake, or the ocean, we love to stay cool splashing around. Before we head out to our destination, I always pack these 6 items to guarantee a good time by the water. Take a peek inside to see my summer pool bag essentials.

The 6 Essentials For My Summer Poolbag

1) Broad Spectrum Sunscreen

Broad Spectrum Sunscreen protects against UVA (rays that cause aging and wrinkles) and UVB (rays that cause rthe “reddening” and sunburns). Read more about sunscreen here.

This pool bag essential is a no brainer. Sun protection is MANDATORY!! I am a huge fan of the aerosol spray because of its easy application and that it will not leak in your bag. My children prefer the solid sports stick sunscreen to put on their face because they can apply it themselves and not get sunscreen in their eyes.

2) Water Bottle

Best Water Bottle Ever!

Hydration is essential while out in the hot sun. I love my S’well water bottle because it keeps my drinks ice cold for hours one end. Be sure not to put carbonated beverages in this bottle unless you want your drink to explode and spill everywhere (speaking from personal experience).

3) Turkish Towels

Buy these awesome towels here

These towels are amazing! Traditional beach towels are thick, bulky, take up too much space in a beach bag, are slow to dry, and are sand and dirt magnets. Turkish towels are thin, absorb water quickly, and dry fast. Sand does not stick to the material. My favorite feature is how compact and easy to carry they are. They also hold up great in the washing machine, which is always a plus.

4) Watermelon

I pack a large container of cut up watermelon whenever we head to the pool or beach. Besides tasting amazing, this delicious summer melon is low in calories (46 cals per cup) and full of fiber and nutrients. Watermelon is also 92% water so also it helps keep us hydrated in the hot sun.

5) Wet Hair Brush

Whether it be in the ocean or at the pool, post swimming hair is always full of tangles. A mom friend told me about this amazing Wet hair brush after she witnessed my daughter screaming and crying as I attempted to brush her hair after swim lessons. The soft bristles glide through wet hair gently pulling at the tangles. It takes a bit longer to brush out all the knots but it is totally worth it because there is no pain.

6) Baby Powder (Beach Only)

Beach time means sandy bodies. While sandy toes are fun on the shore, all that sand is not fun in the car or at the bottom of the bath tub. The best and gentlest sand remover is baby powder. Sprinkle a little bit on sandy legs and feet and with a few quick rubs the sand is gone.

Time spent by the water is always so much fun. Having these 6 essentials in my summer pool bag makes it easy for my family and I to enjoy our time together splashing and playing at the pool and beach. What is your pool or beach bag essential?
