How to Wear Floral Dresses for Fall and Not Look Ridiculous

Just because flowers bloom in spring and summer doesn’t mean your floral frocks are limited to those two seasons. Follow my easy fashion tips to carry those dresses into the fall and winter months.

Summer is far from finished, it has been 90 degrees these past few days in Atlanta, but stores are stocking their shelves with all things cozy and fall. The Pumpkin Spice Latte even made its debut at Starbucks this week. So the big fall fashion question remains; can you wear florals for fall? And not look ridiculous? Yes and yes! In this blog post, I share a few key styling tips for how to wear floral dresses for fall so that you can rock those flower power prints well into the colder months. And look amazing while doing so.

Walk On the Dark Side

Fall is not the time for pastel and neon floral prints. Instead, gravitate towards deeper and darker hues. And I don’t mean just black and grey. Explore other rich autumn colors like burgundy, copper, olive green, and navy. These rich tones will definitely add depth and dimension to your floral patterns.

Keep It Covered

As much as you may love your strapless mini floral sundress, showing that much skin when the temperatures drop may not be the wisest decision. This is when the delicate art of wearing layers comes into play. Style that dark floral mini dress or skirt with a pair of coordinating tights. Added bonus if your tights match your shoes because it gives the illusion you have legs for days! Oversized cardigans are a fall wardrobe staple, so layer an autumn hued one on top of your floral dress for warmth and texture.

Other layering options could be an oversized scarf or wrap, a well-fitting blazer, or even a coordinating cropped sweater.

Leather Up

I love this style contrast of edgy and feminine. Leather accents are a great way to toughen up those pretty florals. Mix it up by wearing this cropped leather moto jacket, this leather wrap belt, or try this fringed leather crossbody bag. Whether you wear it as part of your outfit or as an accessory, leather will help your floral prints transition to fall.

Boots (and Booties) Galore

The easiest way to “fall-ify” florals is to wear boots. Or booties. This footwear instantly transforms sweet summer dresses into fashionable fall looks. All styles of boots look great with these dresses; over the knee, calf-high, ankle, chunky heel, stiletto, lace-up, zipper, EVERY style!
