Handbag Storage: An Easy and Affordable Way to Store Your Purses

My family and I have been in our new house for just under 6 months and we are finally feeling settled in. While the majority of the big home projects (backyard, pool, guest rooms, etc) are now finished, there are still a number of smaller ones that need attended to. Case in point, the master bedroom closet. Though the closet is beautiful and huge in size, the shelving is standard builder grade white wire racks. I would love a custom closet with built in shelves, shoe racks, and drawers but that want is very low on the priority list. So, I am trying to find ways to organize and add to our master closet to give it a custom “look” without the custom cost. The first area to be “customized”; my purse and handbag storage.

The Problem

Such a mess!

I have a number of purses and handbags that I like to switch out for different seasons, outfits and occasions. Until now, they were stacked haphazardly on my top shelf with straps overlapping and entangling, clutches hidden under larger totes, and smaller bags falling through the wire shelving. These purses were in need of some major storage reorganization.

The Plan

My plan was to make individual “cubbies” for my large handbags so they could be stored upright. I wanted to move my smaller clutches and wallets off the top shelf and put them eye level so I could see them easily. But finding shelf dividers and drawers for wire racks proved to be no simple task. After searching high and low, I found these shelf dividers from Lowes and this hanging closet organizer from Amazon.

First, I cleared all my bags off the top shelf and arranged them by size on the floor. My personal preference was to start with the largest bag closest to the wall then work my way down in size.

Laying the purses out on the floor helped me visualize and how I wanted them arranged in my closet.

So easy to install.
Two strong Velcro tabs hold this organizer in place.

The divider installation was very simple. With a quick click onto the shelf, each divider snapped into place and held well. They were also extremely easy to adjust and rearrange. I installed 8 of them in less than 5 minutes. The hanging closet organizer had velcro straps that latched on to the hanger rod of the closet rack. This took less than a minute to hang. Once all the pieces were put into place, it was time to start adding my purses and handbags!

Ta-Da!!

What a difference!

I love how this simple and affordable handbag storage project turned out. All my bags are displayed nicely; organized by size so they can be found easily. In fact, there is extra room on both the shelf and hanging organizer to add more purses. I think it is time for me to go shopping!!!
