My Top 6 Summer Beauty Essentials

Summer is in full swing and just as my fashion and style changes with the season, so does my beauty routine. The heat, humidity, and increased sun exposure does a lot to my skin, not to mention the toll that pool chlorine and lake water take on my hair. But summer fun in the sun does not have to be sacrificed to maintain luscious locks and a dewy complexion. Here are my Top 6 Summer Beauty Essentials that help me combat the effects of the summer season.

My 6 Summer Beauty Essentials

1) MAC Cosmetics Prep & Prime

This multi-tasking misting spray is a summer beauty essential. Not only does it soothe and moisturize skin prior to makeup application, the Prep & Prime fix helps makeup stay put even on the sweatiest and warmest of days. A quick spray of this product on the face after makeup application helps finish and set all of your products. You can also use this spray throughout the day to refresh your face. And as a bonus, the Prep & Prime spray also comes in a travel size bottle that can easily fit in your purse or beach bag.

2) GLAMGLOW GLOWSTARTER Mega Illuminating Moisturizer

To me, summer skin should be bright, dewy, illuminated and moisturized. This tinted moisturizing cream from GLAMGLOW does just that. It is filled with amazing ingredients (like hyaluronic acid and green tea) that hydrate, re-energize, and restore the moisture balance in the skin. This moisturizer comes in 3 colors to compliment a variety of skin tones. My favorite part about this product is the highlighting pearl particles that illuminate and make your skin glow. So pretty!

3) MAC False Lashes Waterproof Mascara

MAC’s False Lashes Mascara is my go-to product for lengthening, thickening and curling my eyelashes (see post here). This water-proof version is just as good as the original. It is sweat, tear, and humidity proof so lashes look amazing all day long no matter what summer activities may come your way.

4) Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardamom Cologne

True story, the first thing that drew me to this fragrance was the word mimosa. Little did I know, that besides being a delicious brunch drink, a mimosa is also a beatiful tree that blossoms with pink fragrant flowers. The sweet honey aroma of the mimosa bloom mixed with the spice of cardamom make this a perfect summer scent. Light enough to not be overbearing in the summer heat but just the right amount of spice to not be sickeningly sweet or fruity.

5) Kristen Ess Scalp Scrub

I first started using this exfoliating scrub a number of months ago to help with my dry scalp and it worked wonders. But I was amazed at how well this product detoxes the buildup, residue, and hard water deposits in my hair that come from summer humidity, sweat, sunscreen, and pool water. I use this gentle scrub once a week to keep my hair clean, healthy, and feeling soft.

6) Hair ties and Bobby Pins

Summer in the south is HOT. By the end of the day, my hair is always pulled back in some type of pony tail, bun, or braid. Rubber bands and bobby pins are stashed in my car, purse, and bathroom drawers throughout the house so I can put up my hair and cool off. My favorite quick summer hair do of choice, the messy bun.

Summer heat and humidity should not ruin your beauty routine. With a few simple changes to your beauty products, glowing summer skin and healthy hair is easy as 1,2,3. What are your top summer beauty essentials?
