Caprese salad is a popular dish in restaurants and homes alike. Cherry tomatoes are in season in late June so this dish is extra delicious when these healthy nutrient dense superfoods are at their peak. I like to use small mozzarella balls (called bocconcini or ciliegne and can be found in the cheese section at your grocery store’s deli) so all the skewers have a uniform shape.
Caprese Skewers
- 30 Cherry tomatoes
- 30 Balls Fresh Mozzarella (Drained and dry)
- 30 Bite Size pieces of Fresh Basil
- Balsamic vinegar
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 30 Toothpicks or Appetizer Skewers
- Thread the basil leaf, mozzarella, and tomato onto the skewer. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
- Drizzle with balsamic vinegar and add salt and pepper to taste. Serve immeadiately.
*place a small bowl or plate next to the serving dish so your guests have somewhere to put the used skewers.
Wine Pairing:
A fruity wine with high acidity, like Sauvignon Blanc, compliments the flavors of this dish.
