When it comes to decorating, a few accessories and statement pieces go a long way. See how I gave my entryway a refresh for Spring.
As you might have seen on Instagram, I concentrated on giving my entryway a little makeover for spring. My goal was to add color, texture, and greenery to this otherwise blank space. Over the holidays, I had moved a houseplant to this room to make space for our Christmas tree and I loved how it looked. It inspired me to do more with this area and thus, came my entryway refresh.
Our entryway, or as some people call it a foyer, was quite bare. In fact it was incredibly bare because there was absolutely NOTHING in it. This space was always a little odd to me; not quite a room, definitely not a hallway, but still a functional place in our home. It has beautiful wainscoting that I did not want to distract from. Plus this room gets a bunch of sunlight from the big double doors. With a little bit of inspiration, research, and planning, I followed these three simple steps to give my entryway the refresh it needed.
Step 1: Add Greenery
As I get older, my love and appreciation for houseplants grows more and more. Indoor plants are such a simple way to add color, freshen the air, and bring life to a room. This entryway space is tall and narrow so I wanted my new plants (and the pots they would be put in) to mimic that.
Snake plants (also known as Mother-in-Law’s Tongue and Sansevieria) are a great houseplant. They require little sunlight, watering, and care which is perfect for my busy schedule. You can read more about low maintenance house plants in this blog post.
I found the selection for statement planters at Cost Plus World Market to be the largest and most affordable. There were many styles I was contemplating before ultimately choosing these large grey and gold planters. Here are the other designs that caught my eye:

Step 2: Add Wall Art
I wanted two coordinating,but not matching pieces, of art to hang above the plants. Fortunately, there are a number of stores that sell artwork in sets so I didn’t have to hunt for pieces. The only problem was the price tag; some of these sets were over $200 each.
I found this abstract watercolor set at Target for $50. Target seemed to have the widest variety of design styles that were also wallet friendly. These other affordable wall art sets were considerations for my entryway refresh as well.

Step 3: Add Texture
I chose to add a large area rug to the entryway to add texture. Finding a rug that looked nice and was durable to foot traffic (it is an entryway after all) was not easy. Most rugs that are low pile and don’t show dirt have a very industrial/warehouse feel. Definitely not a vibe I was looking for.
This bleached jute rug from Hearth and Hand at Target was just the right color and texture. And it coordinated so well with the other entryway accent pieces. If you are planning to put a rug at any door, be sure to buy a good rug pad to protect your floors AND so the rug doesn’t slip out of place.
I thought these rugs would make great entryway choices as well.
This entryway has come a long way from the little blank space it was before. I love the gold and grey tones that echo through all the decor pieces. And the tall planters and plants bring attention to the wainscoting wall detail without overpowering it.
