7 Simple Ways To Make Your Home Cozy for Fall

Effortless ideas to make your home feel cozy this season.

Colors changing. Temperatures dropping. Smells of cinnamon, nutmeg, and pumpkin spice. It’s fall y’all!! While nature is working it’s magic changing into this beautiful season, now is the perfect time to flip the switch from summer to autumn and create a cozy home for you to enjoy. You don’t need a major decor overhaul to make your home feel like fall. Simple seasonal additions can make a huge impact and I am here to show you how. I have compiled the prettiest fall decorating ideas that are both easy-to-do and oh-so-impressive. So whether you are on a decor budget, looking for design inspiration, or want to add more seasonal touches to your current home decor, keep reading to learn seven simple ways to make your home cozy for fall.

1) Switch Out Your Pillows

Changing out throw pillows is the fastest and easiest way to update a room. But buying new pillows for every season can be expensive and takes up a lot of storage space. This is where pillow covers come in. At a fraction of the price and taking up minimal space, seasonal pillow covers are a home decorators dream. For fall, embrace all things textured and neutral. Look for leather, sherpa, velvet, faux fur, and cable knit sweater-like pillow covers. Be sure to stick to warm neutral tones like amber, rust, gold, chocolate brown, olive green, and hazel.

**this applies to throw blankets too.

2) Spice Up Your Space With Fall Scents

Pumpkin spice seems to be the most popular smell of fall but there are so many other amazing autumn scents. Make your home smell cozy with sugary, spicy, and woodsy aromas. Think outside the box with scents like sandalwood, fig, pine, clove, patchouli, and bourbon.

3) Set Your Table

A beautifully decorated table makes a huge design impact. To create a cozy fall table scape, incorporate seasonal colors and textures. Add small pumpkins, gourds, and candles to create depth and dimension. Use fall-themed serving pieces and drinkware double as table decor as well.

4) Pretty Pumpkins Everywhere

Pumpkins and gourds are a beautiful fall decor item. And you don’t even have to use real ones. Add them to your shelves, tabletops, mantel, side tables, fireplace, or front porch. I use a mix of both faux and real pumpkins. I love to decorate with the fairytale pumpkins (the misshapen, oddly-colored, and pumply-dumply ones). Just be sure to keep real pumpkins out of direct sunlight. The heat makes them more susceptible to rot which makes for an ooey, gooey, gross mess.

5) Hang It Up

Add a fall-themed wreath or door hanger to your front door to tell your neighborhood you are ready for fall. I made these easy DIY pumpkin and gourd wreaths for my front doors and have this monogram pumpkin hanger on my side door.

6) Use the Great Outdoors

Mother Nature is quite the fall decorating diva. So why not borrow a few of her fall items for your home? Use in-season flowers to decorate both the inside and outside of your house. I like to use mums because they are a hearty flower that comes in a variety of autumn colors. And don’t just stop with flowers. Haybales, dried cornstalks, and pinecones all make for easy statement fall decor.

7) Powder Room Refresh

Go the extra mile and add some cozy fall touches to your powder room. Add fall-themed hand towels and a rug. Switch out the shower curtain. And this is the perfect spot to add some mini pumpkins, a scented candle, and a holiday hand soap.
