With a glue gun & a few inexpensive items from the craft store, make this felt Christmas tree to decorate your home for the holiday season.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree…there is just something so magical about Christmas trees. I love to decorate my house with these beautiful trees for the holiday season and I actually might have a slight obsession with them. Besides two full-size trees, I also have eight smaller ones and plenty of pine garland & swag to go around. Five of these “extra” trees are felt ones I made after being inspired by their counterparts at Annie Selke and Pottery Barn Kids. I promise, this Felt Christmas Tree project is SUPER simple and inexpensive. I made all of five of my trees for less than $40. Plus, it’s beautiful custom Christmas decor you can use year after year.
What You’ll Need
- glue gun (I love this mini one)
- glue sticks
- styrofoam cone
- felt sheets (you’ll need 2 sheets for each tree)
How To Make A Felt Christmas Tree
First, make a small template for your felt Christmas tree “leaves”. It doesnt have to be fancy; I made mine out of a post-it note. I chose a hexagon-ish shape with soft rounded edges but you can make any size or shape you want.
Trace the leaf template onto a felt sheet and cut them out.
Once all the felt is cut, heat up the glue gun and have your styrofoam cone nearby.
Start by gluing the felt leaves around the base of the cone. Be sure to leave a small 1/4″ overhang of felt off the bottom of the cone so the styrofoam is completely hidden. Glue the leaves completely around the base of the cone.
Continue to glue and overlap the felt leaves, working up to the tip of the cone. Once you reach the tip, fold the last leaf so it is flat on the top of the cone and secure it with plenty of hot glue.
