My foundation has never looked better since I started using a Kabuki brush.
I am not new to the world of foundation make up brushes. In fact, I have used several over the years and have been told by many beauty enthusiasts that they are the key to flawless foundation application. I can still vividly hear the MAC makeup artist telling me 20 years ago that “great artists don’t finger paint, they use brushes.” And I should do the same on my face. Well, I’m no DaVinci but I do know smooth makeup application. My foundation has never looked better since I made the switch to using a Kabuki brush.
So What Exactly Is A Kabuki Brush?
It is a small, mighty, compact version of a traditional makeup brush. It has a short handle (great for beauty touch ups on the go) and a dense head of bristles. The compact bristles are great for seamlessly applying makeup over large surface areas (i.e. your entire face). A kabuki brush can be used to apply foundation, powder, blush, and bronzer so it makes for a fabulous all-in-one tool.
Fun Fact
These brushes were named after the iconic Japanese performance art of Kabuki Theater. The performers would use these dense brushes to apply the heavy layers of white rice powder onto their face and necks.
Why I Like A Kabuki Brush
- Applying Makeup is A Breeze. As a busy mom of 2, anything to help streamline my morning routine is a plus.
- Better and More Even Coverage. These dense bristles seamlessly apply my foundation. In the past, my foundation brushes left streaks and shed black bristles all over my face. Definitely not the look I was going for. And I feel I use less product when I use a Kabuki brush.
- Compact Size. Bigger isn’t always better and I love how little space this brush takes up.
- Versatile. Since this multi-tasking brush can be used with a variety of makeup products, I can downsize my makeup bag.
