Meet the dry shampoo that has changed my mind about dry shampoo and has worked wonders on my dark, short, oily hair.
I have very thick hair. And oily too. Even as a baby, my mom would have to wash my hair daily because of all the build-up. Fast forward to today and throw in a bob haircut, Atlanta heat and humidity and almost daily Peloton classes and you have the perfect recipe for dirty hair. And not the chic NYC runway model kind. Daily hair washings were the norm until I started using this Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo for dark tones. Don’t get me wrong; I have given dry shampoo a try. But there would always be white residue I could never brush out. My hair was kind of better but definitely not oil-free. I snagged this dry shampoo on Prime Day, have used it consistently over the past week and a half and have never looked back. It absorbs grease like no other and doesn’t leave that crunchy powdery film in my hair. It gives me volume, lift and finally, clean-looking day two hair.
Moroccanoil Dark Tones Dry Shampoo Review
$24.70 at Amazon / $26 at Sephora
How It Works
This dry shampoo contains two powerhouse ingredients to combat build up and odor. First is rice starch, a natural absorbent that draws out oil. And second, argan oil which is rich in fatty acids and antioxidants to nourish hair.
How I Use It
Dry shampoo is so popular because of how incredibly easy it is to use. And this one is super simple. I divide my hair into 4 sections, hold the aerosol bottle 6 inches away from my head and lightly spray each section. I wait a few minutes for it to dry and then rub my fingers through my hair as if I was actually using regular shampoo. Then I brush and style as normal (check out my favorite styling tool here). Easy peasy!
Note**The dry shampoo still looks tannish-white when first sprayed on the hair. But as it dries, the light color disappears and blends in beautifully with dark hair.**
Why I Like It
Oh let me count the ways. First, the texture. After using this dry shampoo my hair feels smooth and soft. Not dry, crunchy, or heavy with product. Second, it lasts! While I wish I could tell you it lasts all day (which is impossible because your hair is going to add more oil naturally as the day carries on), it lasts better and longer than other dry shampoos I tried. And third, it smells UH-MAZING!! If Moroccoanoil made candles out of this dry shampoo fragrance I would buy them by the dozen. Clean, refreshing, energizing, it is that good!
But I Don’t Have Dark Hair
Don’t worry blondies, Moroccanoil has a dry shampoo for light tones too. While I can’t attest to the texture, staying power, or fragrance of that shampoo, it is on the market. And if it is anything like the dark tone dry shampoo, you will be pleased.
