The Best Sugar Cookie Recipe EVER!

My mom and I have been making this sugar cookie recipe since I was a little girl. And now it has become a tradition for her to make, bake, and decorate these same cookies with my children during the holidays. Start a new family tradition in your house or whip up a delicious batch of sugar cookies just for you with this simple and tasty recipe.

The Best Cut-Out Sugar Cookie Recipe

  • 3/4 Cup Unsalted butter (Softened)
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 Cups Flour
  • 1 Tsp Baking powder
  • 1 Tsp salt
  1. Mash butter and sugar with a fork until blended.
  2. Add eggs and vanilla to the butter and blend with a fork.
  3. Slowly stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix all together.
  4. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate it for at least one hour or up to one day.
  5. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Working in small batches, roll out dough onto a floured surface with a floured rolling pin until the dough is 1/4 inch thick. Dip cookie cutters in flour then use them to cut out shapes in the dough.
  6. Bake cookies for 8-10 minutes. Let them cool then transfer them to a wire rack.

**If you want colored cookies, add 2-3 drops of food coloring to the dough before refrigerating.  Be sure the coloring is mixed thoroughly before wrapping it in plastic wrap.**

**Store cookies in an airtight container to keep them fresh for up to 1 week.**
