Halloween Hot Dogs: Macabre Mummies and Spine-Tingling Squids
Spooky, salty, scrumptious and scary, these haunting hot dog appetizers are perfect for Halloween.
- 8 Hot Dogs
- 1 Can Refrigerated Pie Dough
- Cooking Spray
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cut 1 round refrigerated pie dough into 12 strips about 1/2 inch wide. Wrap the strips around 4 hot dogs, slightly over lapping them. Place the hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the oven for 25 minutes.
- To make the squids, slice the 4 remaining hot dogs in half lengthwise, leaving 2 inches intact at one end. Carefully slice each side into 4 strips to make 8 legs.
- Spray a large skillet with cooking spray and put it on medium heat. Set the squids, leg side down, into the hot pan. Be sure the legs are spread out so they can cook evenly. You may have to keep pushing the squid body down so the legs lay flat. Continue to fry the hot dogs on the skillet until the legs are brown and curled.
- Let the hot dogs cool slightly then serve.
To add eyes to these Halloween Hot Dogs, cut out small pieces of black olives and secure them with mustard.
For Extra Spooky Ketchup, mix black gel food coloring into ketchup.
To make bite size mummies and squids, cut the hot dogs in half crosswise. Prepare these smaller versions as you would the original.
