New Years Resolutions, plans, goals. Whatever you call them, it’s that time of year to choose to recenter, refocus, and reprogram and I have chosen my word of the year to help me do just that.
What is your New Year’s Resolution? A commonly asked question that gets such a bad rap. I used to love making New Year’s Resolutions. Some years they were simple and some years more intricate. Yet all were peppered with the harsh reality that I would break most, if not all, in a few short weeks. Ten years ago, a friend challenged me to try something different. Instead of making complicated (aka easily breakable) goals, she challenged me to choose a Word of the Year. A simple single word to apply to my actions and choices. A word to use in hardship, success, trial, celebration, with my family, with my friends, and with myself. I accepted her challenge and ten years later I am still following her advice by choosing My One Word every January 1.
My 2025 Word of the Year is:
In My “Extra” Era
The word extra has recently gotten a bad rap. Calling someone “extra” means they are over the top, excessive and overly dramatic. Not exactly personality traits I want to embody for the new year. However, as someone who thrives on going the extra mile, doesn’t mind standing out in a crowd and loves to encourage and uplift others, I think extra as my one word for 2025 is absolutely perfect.
Extra Time
The older I get, the faster time goes. Being completely transparent, I waste a majority of my time on my phone. My phone is my primary source of communication, information, entertainment and how I do my job. But there’s also a lot of mindless scrolling too. My goal is to shift that extra time to communicate and bond with my kids, husband, family and friends.
Extra Flair
I love to be fancy. It doesn’t bother me at all to be overly dressed for an event or occasion. In fact I adore it. I am embracing this extra fashion flair and choosing to wear that jewlery, that perfume and that bold lipstick.
Extra Attention
This comes in two parts because I must identify where my extra attention should be placed. First and foremost, my focus will be on my relationships. But there are certain areas of my business, where I’ve skated by with the bare minimum, that need extra attention.
Extra Care
This is a reminder for me. A reminder to drink that extra glass of water, do that extra step in my skincare, and most importantly to take those extra moments of rest.
Doing all of these extras every day would be, well…. “extra.” And nearly impossible. But it is absolutely do-able to find one “extra” thing to focus on a day.
My Word of the Year is:
Balance.
Try to move steadfastly toward balance in very part of my life – emotional, mental, physical, social, and spiritual.
My one word for 2025 is: EMBRACE. What’s that look like? Opening both arms to embrace the present moment with joy and delight! OR. Opening both arms to embrace the present moment with acceptance and serenity.
This is beautiful. What a wonderful word & I love how you plan on implementing it
