Make this sleigh bell and snow kissed buffalo plaid wreath for your home this holiday season.

Tis the season to decorate our homes for the holidays. And what better place to start than with the entryway. A beautiful holiday wreath can be a gorgeous statement piece for the front door but most stores sell them for a very steep price tag. If you have been following me for a while, you know I really enjoy crafting affordable seasonal wreaths for fractions of the price of retail ones. I have made wreaths for spring, fall, and now with the holidays just around the corner, it was time to get my creative juices flowing and make some for this season. My Christmas decor theme is rustic chic; lots of plaid and buffalo check, natural textures, pine boughs, and farmhouse touches. I wanted my holiday wreath to have this same theme and I am beyond excited with how this project turned out. See how simple and fun it is to make this DIY Farmhouse Christmas wreath for your entryway.

To make this wreath, I used:

You will need these simple tools (available in the floral section of any craft store):

To start, you will need to “resuscitate” your wreath. The pine boughs have been smashed and flattened to death in transit from factory to store. Gently separate and straighten out the flattened branches and stems. The wreath will instantly look bigger, fuller, and way more realistic.

Next, you will want to get the wreath decor ready. Take the wire cutters and begin to snip off the limbs, branches, pine cones and other embellishments off of the floral pick.

Arrange and place the decor pieces onto the wreath. I chose to spread the snow flocked pieces evenly around the wreath and accent the bottom corner with the pine cones and holly berries. I used floral wire and floral picks to attach these pieces. Remember to leave a bare space at the top of the wreath to attach the sleigh bells and ribbon.

To attach the sleigh bells, I placed the top of the rope at the top of my wreath. Then I secured the rope by wrapping pine stems from the wreath around its edges.

Next, I cut a 6 inch piece a ribbon. I looped the ribbon through the sleigh bell rope and that wrapped it around the top of the wreath. I pulled the ribbon taut then secured the ends with hot glue.

The last thing to make for this farmhouse Christmas wreath was the top bow. I wanted the bow to be huge so I used a 55 inch piece of ribbon to make it. I followed this simple ribbon tying tutorial to make the over-sized bow.

How to tie a bow

To make sure my bow did not come undone, I hot glued the back side of the knot. Once the glue was dry, I secured the bow to the top of my wreath with more hot glue.

The ribbon ends were a little too long for my liking so I cut off 4 inches from each one and then trimmed the edges in a triangular shape. Voila, the finished product!

I am so happy with how my wreaths turned out and I think they are the perfect statement piece for my front doors. The buffalo plaid and the snow covered pine branches capture the essence of winter. And the sound of the ringing jingle bells brings me so much Christmas cheer. If you decide to try make this DIY Farmhouse Christmas wreath, please email me your pictures. I would love to see them.
