We have been in our new house for exactly two months. My goal, when we moved in, was to have the guest bedrooms fully furnished and decorated before summer began.
Well, I am proud to say Mission Accomplished!!
The first bedroom was easy to put together. Most of the furniture and decor came from the guest bedroom in our old house. But for the second room, my options were endless. I chose to go with a modern mid-century design theme which involves clean lines, organic shapes, sleek colors, and mixed materials used to make traditional looking pieces.
Our modern mid-century guest room.
The Bed
I believe the style of the bed frame dictates the style of the bedroom. I chose this grey metal frame bed because of its sleek headboard and legs. The bed linens and duvet cover are white so they can easily be cleaned and sanitized with detergent and bleach. I fell in love with the yellow plaid pattern on this throw blanket and chose to carry that color through with the accent pillows.
The Bedside Table
A bedside table is a necessity for guests. I loved the modern design of this table. It also has an raised rim around the edge , almost like a tray, so items or decor do not fall off. This simple touch lamp gives just enough extra light to the already bright bedroom.
The Decor
What mid-century styled room is complete without a picture of a vintage movie icon? I have loved Audrey Hepburn ever since I was in elementary school and this print was a gift from my parents for my 18th birthday. I am so glad I have held onto it for all these years because it is the perfect artwork for this guest room.
Mirrors, whatever size or shape, always make rooms look larger. It took some time for me to arrange these fun circle mirrors in a way I liked, but I love the modern yet whimsical effect they add to the room.
When I saw this plant stand and white pot, I knew they would be the perfect style for this room. This stand is both high and narrow, making the plant look big without taking up too much space in the bedroom. The dark grey-green leaves of the rubber plant also fit into the room’s color scheme.
The Guest Basket
Last, though certainly not least, is the guest basket filled with all kinds of toiletries and goodies visitors may need while staying with you. I filled this basket with a number of travel-size products that guests could use at their own free will.
